5K Colour Fun Run/Walk
Frequently Asked Questions - FAQs
How long is the course and where does it go?
The course is 5K, and starts in the field next to the Community Centre, it then crosses the road and goes into Blackmuir Wood up to the Stone maze and then back around and down and end up back where you started.
Do I have to run the whole course?
No, absolutely not. We want as many people as possible to take part and that is at whatever speed and pace you are comfortable with whether that’s running, jogging or walking. We want people to have a fun-filled day.
Is the run timed?
No, as Colour Fun Run/Walk is not a race there is no timing. There won’t be a winner and you won’t be provided with a time at the end, it’s all about having fun and getting messy!
Do I need to get sponsored?
Once you have paid your registration fee, which covers the cost of putting on the race, you are able to come and take part in Colour Fun Run/Walk without any further cost. However, as with all of our events we hold, we do so to raise money for our community centre and a nominated charity – this time Mikeysline and it’s through your sponsorship that this is possible. All the money raised will be split equally between Strathpeffer Community Association and Mikeysline.
Remember, the registration fee only covers the cost of putting on the event so we encourage you to try and raise as much as you can.
How do I pay in my sponsor money?
If you’ve set up an online giving page, the donations will be sent to us automatically so you don’t need to do anything.
If sending a cheque, please make them payable to ‘Strathpeffer Community Association’ and either drop them off at the centre or send them to: Strathpeffer Community Centre, Colour Run, School Road, Strathpeffer, IV14 9AG
If you’ve been given cash, you are welcome to drop it off at the centre at any time. Alternatively, you can pay the cash into your own bank and then send us a cheque.
Please remember to return any paper sponsorship forms to us so that we can claim any Gift Aid. Gift Aid on all online donations is claimed automatically.
Where can I park my car?
Car parking is available outside the community centre. The address for sat nav is Strathpeffer Community Centre, School Road, Strathpeffer Ross-shire, IV14 9AG
Is the course suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs?
The course is a mixture of terrains, mainly compacted gravel paths. We have picked the route to make it as easy as possible for people to get round but we would advise that you use off road wheels where possible and be aware that some of it will be easier to push on than others.
Also, please bear in mind that the coloured powder will cover the wheelchair and/or pushchair and we cannot take responsibility for the cleaning of these.
Can my child take part?
Yes, of course! Colour Fun Run/Walk is safe for all ages and we welcome families to take part. However, parents or guardians must accompany children around the course.
Can my child run on their own?
All children must be accompanied to the event by a responsible adult who is on site at all times. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult throughout the whole run.
What should I wear?
Your Colour Fun Run/Walk T-shirt! You’ll receive this at registration so wear something you can put this over (there are no changing rooms). This is included in your registration fee and is white to maximise the effect of the coloured powder.
If it is bad weather then please dress appropriately but remember that everything that you have on will get covered in coloured powder, so make sure that you wear something that you don’t mind getting messy.
What if it rains?
We'll get wet! A little rain won’t stop us, it’ll just make it messier and could be slippery so come prepared.
In the unlikely event of extreme weather that causes a dangerous situation, the event will be rescheduled – we will use the contact details given during registration to make contact with everyone with as much notice as possible.
What is the coloured powder made from?
The coloured powder is a natural product. It is natural corn starch dyed with food and cosmetic grade colourings and is manufactured specifically for throwing at people. It is non-toxic, non-hazardous and biodegradable.
Will the coloured powder come off?
Although the coloured powder will come off we recommend wearing something that you don’t mind getting messy, including your shoes. The best way to get rid of the powder is to brush off the excess while it is dry and in powder form. The rest will wash off in the shower or bath when you get home.
Please be aware that you may have to wash your hair a couple of times to remove all colour. With your clothes, it should wash out with no problems if you follow the washing instructions and as with anything dirty, the sooner you wash it the better.
If you would like to preserve the colour in your T-shirt as a souvenir, our top tip is to spray it with vinegar, iron it and wash on cool.
What if it gets in my eyes or mouth?
The coloured powder is non-toxic and non-hazardous so will not cause injury to you if it gets in your eyes or you accidentally swallow it. Colour Fun Run/Walk participants are all issued with a pair of sunglasses which will help to keep the powder out of their eyes. There will be first aid support throughout the event and water available at each colour station if you need to wash your eyes.
How will the coloured powder be thrown?
Around the course you will come across our colour stations with smiling faces just waiting for you to approach. Don’t be fooled, these smiley faces are there for one job, to cover you with paint. It will be aimed at the body, not the face, although it will cause clouds of powder and you will end up with it on your face and in your hair.
People will also be throwing their own coloured powder which will be issue along with the T-shirt and sunglasses. We have no control over this although we do ask people to only throw it at their own friends and family, just before the start.
Will the coloured powder harm the environment?
It is completely non-hazardous and biodegradable. We will clean up as much as we can after the event but the powder disappears into the ground surprisingly quickly and will be completely gone the first time it rains.
Will the coloured powder harm my car?
We recommend bringing an old towel/sheet or cover for your seats to prevent any of the colour powder transferring to your car upholstery on the way home. Depending on which day the wind is blowing on the day, your car might get a dusting of coloured powder over the top of it, this will come off with a simple car wash or the first time it rains.
When will I get my Colour Fun Run/Walk pack?
You will get a confirmation email when you register and a follow up mailing from us with further information about the day and about sponsorship. You will pick up your pack on the day from 12 noon onwards.
Can I bring my dog/horse with me?
We're afraid not; for the safety and welfare of our animal friends and other Colour Fun Run/Walk participants please leave all pets at home.
Of course, assistance dogs are welcome to attend.
Will there be any food/drinks available?
Yes, we will be selling hot and cold drinks and home-made cakes from the community centre. In addition, we will have bottled water to hand out after the fun/run.
Can I get a refund or transfer my place?
Sorry, there are no refunds or transfers once you have registered.
Can my friends and family watch me run?
Yes they can, but why not encourage them to take part? You will all have more fun running together.
Can I volunteer?
Yes! Our events simply couldn’t happen without the work of our fantastic volunteers! Details of the roles will be available shortly.
